Welcome to Taking on the Text--a blog that explores all kinds of texts from a (mostly) rhetorical viewpoint. My name is Lauren Cagle and I am a Ph.D. student in rhetoric and composition. This blog is where I write about the ways we make meaning from all kinds of signs and systems: speech, writing, architecture, design, film, artisan crafts, cookbooks... I want to find ways to expand our notions of what can be a "text" and what can be analyzed rhetorically. Most of my explorations come directly from whatever I encounter in popular culture and everyday life.
